Michelangelo Buonarroti is probably one of the most famous Florentine artists whose art continues to fascinate the public. He is considered an eccentric genius and an individualist incredibly jealous of his creations. Discover Michelangelo’s art during a private tour in Florence.
Florence is truly fortunate as it has been touched by Michelangelo’s creativity and today the local museums preserve some of the artist’s most important masterpieces. This tour presents the figure of Michelangelo, his art and life. Our journey starts in the Bargello Museum, where we admire the Bacchus sculpted in Rome in 1496, one of the very few fully finished sculptures by Michelangelo. In the museum we will also have a look at the famous Tondo Pitti, an intimate sculptural image of a Madonna with Child commissioned to the artist by Bartolomeo Pitti.
After the visit to the Bargello Museum, we walk together to the Accademia Gallery, that hosts the most famous work by Michelangelo, the David. In the Gallery we will also see Michelangelo’s Prisons, planned for Julius’ II tomb but never concluded.
After the visit to the David, we continue our tour with the discovery of the New Sacristy, designed by Michelangelo a as funerary chapel for the Medici family and located inside of the San Lorenzo complex. Here the artist projected a space that perfectly unites the sculpture with the architecture. The tombs of Lorenzo Duke of Urbino and Giuliano Duke of Nemours fit perfectly into their architectonic frames. While we admire this magnificent space, we discover the hidden meanings of Michelangelo’s work and we learn about his tormented relationship with the Medici family.
